[numbers] Top Pieced!

Numbers Quilt - WIP: Top Pieced **need help with border**

I finished piecing the top to the Numbers quilt today. Yay! This quilt is being made to go into the girls’ colorful playroom and I was inspired by stitchindye’s quilts: this, this, and this. (LOVE her work, especially her free motion quilting.)

The centers of the wonky/improv style log cabins were fussy cut from an IKEA duvet cover (fabric is TERRIBLE quality – you can see through it – and I had to add fusible interfacing to back it). The blocks are roughly 12″ x 14″ each.

I was going to use just one large piece of the IKEA numbers fabric as backing for the quilt, but since the quality is so bad, I won’t. Instead the backing will be pieced (design TBD) with good fabric but I’ll still incorporate large pieces of the IKEA numbers fabric (as large as I can go with the fusible interfacing without having to piece it).

The binding will be a small stripe that incorporates all of the colors in the quilt. Or I may do a pieced/scrappy binding using the stripes and leftover solid scraps from the blocks.

I am unsure if I need to add a border to the quilt. The quilt teacher at the relatively traditional quilt store I frequent thinks it needs a border, but I think it stands on it’s own without a border.

This is only my second quilt (my first “quilt” was a rag quilt, made several years ago when I was pregnant with Mallory, now 3).
